Teaching Style
Some
of the methods PIANO PATTER incorporates include:
♫
Encouraging
reading readiness via the “singing” of books that have been set to simple
tunes. Matching specific words to music and recognizing them by the drawings on
each page is a sequential form of learning and is essential in reading
comprehension.
♫
Introduction to
famous composers and familiarity with their music taught by hearing the story,
such as the “Firebird” by Stravinsky or the “Surprise Symphony” by
Haydn, learning to sing the main theme of the piece via simple and fun lyrics,
acting out the story, and sometimes incorporating an art project.
♫
Development of
tone recognition by using the piano along with colorful “sound tubes”, which
also helps the process of color recognition, rhythm, cause and effect, sequence
and balance, harmony and dissonance.
♫
Children will
actually “compose” their own songs as they acquire note recognition skills.
This will be accomplished initially by a revolutionary new method of equating
notes to animals, something kids love and relate to easily. Each note is
introduced with a story and represented by a caricature of an animal whose name
starts with the letter. At the same
time, students will learn where the note is on the piano keyboard.
♫
Presenting basic
concepts of musical form, in part by an inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright. As
a child, Wright was exposed to the music of Bach by his father, a church
musician. The concept of the fugue is apparent in his architecture, and, in
fact, his own son, John, invented Lincoln Logs while observing his father design
and build the Imperial Hotel in
